 Today's Goal:  Welcome back!  Today we will begin a new year and a new quarter.  Let's make the 3rd quarter our most successful quarter yet!  George Washington is the most famous and maybe the most important American to have ever lived.  George Washington's legendary leadership as both a general and a president created the United States and saved the nation on countless occasions.  But how much do you really know about George Washington "the man."  In this activity, we will be researching George Washington and going over some fun and interesting facts about him as a man ad about his life.

 qualities to establish the office of President of the United States.  Washington's presidency created a blue

 Topic: George Washington As President - Cabinet and First Political Parties

 

 Today's Goal:  Today we will continue to learn about George Washington as our first president. When

 Washington took office, he realized that he would need help doing all of the jobs assigned to the president in

 the Constitution.  Washington created a group of people to help him known as the "cabinet."  Washington's

 cabinet was an all star team of political talent.  However, these men all had different opinions and often argued

 about what was best for the country.  These arguments eventually turn into our first two "Political Parties." 

 Today you should complete parts 1 and 2 of the blue activity in the Hamilton's Financial Plan lesson below.

 Topic: George Washington As our First President  - Hamilton's Financial Plan

 

 Today's Goal:  When One of the biggest challenges George Washington had as our first president was fixing

 the nation's broken economy.  As Secretary of the Treasury, that job fell to Alexander Hamilton.  Hamilton

 came up with a brilliant plan to solve the nation's financial and credit issues.  His plan also set the course for

 the future of our nation's economic system.  However not everyone approved of Hamilton's plan.  George

 Washington had to find a compromise that resulted in a better national economy and the building of a new

 capital in Washington DC!

**Hello All, Sorry I have been out.  My son and I have been fighting the flu since the weekend. 

 

 Topic: Thomas Jefferson As President  - Lewis and Clark

 

 Today's Goal:  Jefferson's greatest achievement as president was purchasing the Louisiana Territory. 

 Following the purchase, Jefferson also sent an exploratory expedition to check out what was out there.  This

 expedition became legendary and is know as the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery.  Learn more about this

 amazing adventure by completing the activity below.

 Today's Goal:  Happy Friday!  Thomas Jefferson had a remarkable first term in office.  However, Jefferson's

 second term was not so easy.  England and France were once again drawing America into a war and

 Jefferson must find a solution.  Unfortunately for Jefferson, his solution known as the Embargo of 1807 was

 not successful.
