 Today's Goal:  Welcome back!  Today we will begin a new year and a new quarter.  Let's make the 3rd quarter 

 our most successful quarter yet!  George Washington is the most famous and maybe the most important

 American to have ever lived.  George Washington's legendary leadership as both a general and a president 

 created the United States and saved the nation on countless occasions.  But how much do you really know about

 George Washington "the man."  In this activity, we will be researching George Washington and going over some

 fun and interesting facts about him as a man ad about his life.

 Topic: George Washington As President - Precedents and Problems 

 

 Today's Goal:  When the Founding Father were writing the Constitution, they designed the President of the

 United States with George Washington in mind.  However, no one on Earth had ever held a job like being 

 President of the United States.  George Washington had to interpret the Constitution and his own leadership

 qualities to establish the office of President of the United States.  Washington's presidency created a blue

 print or an example for all other presidents to follow.

Topic: George Washington As President - George's All Star Cabinet

 

 Today's Goal:  Today we will continue to learn about George Washington as our first president.  

 When Washington took office, he realized that he would need help doing all of the jobs assigned to the president

 in the Constitution.  Washington created a group of people to help him known as the "cabinet."  Washington's

 cabinet was an all star team of political talent.  However, these men all had different opinions and often argued

 about what was best for the country.  These arguments eventually turn into our first two "Political Parties." 

 Today you should complete parts 1 and 2 of the blue activity in the Hamilton's Financial Plan lesson below.

 Topic: George Washington As President - Hamilton's Financial Plan

 

 Today's Goal:  One of the biggest challenges George Washington had as our first president was fixing

  the nation's broken economy.  As Secretary of the Treasury, that job fell to Alexander Hamilton.  Hamilton

 came up with a brilliant plan to solve the nation's financial and credit issues.  His plan also set the course for

 the future of our nation's economic system.  However not everyone approved of Hamilton's plan.  George

 Washington had to find a compromise that resulted in a better national economy and the building of a new

 capital in Washington DC!

 Today's Goal:  Thomas Jefferson disagreed with Alexander Hamilton's Financial Plan and encouraged his friends

 in Congress such as James Madison and James Monroe to oppose it.  George Washington's leadership was tested

 as tensions between his cabinet members escalated.  How to solve the nation's financial troubles in a way

 everyone could support was one of Washington's greatest achievements as president.  Get ready to learn how he

 did it!

 Today's Goal:  Care As more and more Americans move west into places such as Ohio and Indiana, a series of

  Indian Wars take place for control of the Great Lakes Region.  Today we will learn about two of these Indians

  Wars known as the Battle of Fallen Timbers and the Battle of Tippecanoe!  These battles made it possible for

  Ohio's eventual statehood in 1803!

 Topic: John Quincy Adams and the Election of 1824 - The Corrupt Bargain

 

 Today's Goal:  The "Age of Jackson" began with a scandal called the "Corrupt Bargain."   As the torch of  American leadership was passed to the next generation, controversy swelled around the Election of 1824 and  President John Quincy Adams.  Today we will meet President JQ Adams and begin to learn about how he  became president and why Andrew Jackson was not very happy it.

 polls to elect a new president.  In the Election of 1828 a whole new group of more common Americans had  

 the right to vote, and those new voters overwhelming elected Andrew Jackson as their president.
