Unit #2: The American Revolution - patriotbook Project
Learning Target: I can CREATE and SHARE a facebook style profile for a patriot during the American Revolution using research strategies and various primary and secondary sources. 

Please complete the steps below to prepare for this assignment:

 * Follow the directions below.  For this assignment you will NOT be creating a LiveBinder tab.  Instead you will be researching a famous patriot in order to create a "patriotbook" profile
    for them within the PowerPoint template.  You will then share your patriot's profile with other students before submitting each part of your assignment to your teacher.

Part 1: How Well Do You Know Great American Patriots?

 


 1.  As we begin this exciting project, it is important to access how much we already know about America's great founders!  Follow the directions below to participate in a short introductory activity:

 1.  Use your web browser to login to the www.mobile.mimio.com website.   

 2.  Use the web ID# to access the class session.  Wait for your teachers to present today's prelearning questions.  If you are unable to login, please look on with a friend. 

 3.  Actively participate in the activity with the rest of the class

 Part 2: What will you be creating and how will you be graded?

 1.  There were many amazing patriots that helped the United States win independence during the American Revolution.  For this activity, you and your group will be researching ONE of these patriots to find out
     more about their lives and their contribution to American independence.   You will be conducting your own Internet research and prewriting activities in order to create a fake facebook style profile. 
     Your final project will be presented to your classmates within a powerpoint template provided.

 Part 3: Getting Started: Researching, Planning, and Prewriting

 1.   Wait for your teachers to assign you a patriot before moving on to the next step.  While you wait to be assigned your patriot, check out some of America's amazing patriots patriots!  Be sure to write down,
       record, or remember which patriot you have been assigned.  

 2.   Download a copy of the patriotbook project outline.  You can open this outline in MS Word.  You must complete this outline before you will be able to access the template for your final project. 

      

 3.   Place the name of the patriot you are researching at the top of the page.  BE SURE TO SAVE the file to your computer's desktop.  Be sure to save often.

 
4.   Conduct your own Internet research to learn about the lives and accomplishments of your assigned patriot.  The more information you learn about your patriot, the easier the project will be to complete.    You
       will want to find out about their lives and their contribution to American independence.  These contributions can be before or during the American Revolution depending on what you learn about the individual
       patriot. 

       You can begin by using this site

 5.   You will need to use at least FIVE sources to complete your patriotbook profile.  Please be sure to site each of your sources in your patriotbook project outline and at the end of your final project template.

 Part 4: "Creating Your patriotbook Profile"

 


 1.   Download a copy of the "patriotbook template" and save it to your computer.  Open the file in MS. PowerPoint.  You will be using the information you researched to complete the template for your patriot.  
       Be sure to save often. 

 2.  Type you patriot's name in the header at the top of each pariotbook page

 3.  Conduct an Internet search to find a good profile picture for your patriot.  Place the image in the profile squares on each patriotbook page.  You will have to resize the images accordingly.  

 4.   Next, use your patriotbook project outline to complete the "patriotbook template"

 5.   Now, based on your research, conduct an Internet search to find at least 10 images/photos that would appear on your patriot's patriotbook page.  You can either save an insert or copy and paste
       them into page #3 of your profile.  You will need to resize these images.  Please make sure that these images reflect the activities your patriot would have taken during the Revolutionary
       Era. 
Select two of your images to use as album profiles on the left side of page 2.  You should give each album an appropriate name.

Part 5: "Sharing Your patriotbook Profile"

  Option #1:

 1.  Download a copy of the What is Trending on patriotbook? file.

 2.  You will be presenting your final project to the class. 

 3.  You will also be listening to other presentations in order to complete the What is Trending on patriotbook?file.

 4.  Go home and tell a family member about something you learned.      

  

  Option #2

 1.   Once you have completed your patriotbook profile in PowerPoint, email your completed file to Mr. Gigliotti and Ms. Foster (gigliottip@parmacityschools.org  |  fostern@parmacityschools.org)

 2.  Now email your group's completed patriotbook profile to another group of students in your class in order to share the information you learned about your patriot. 

 3.  Each student should download a copy of the download a copy of the What is Trending on patriotbook? file.  Open the file in Word. 

 4.  Examine the other group's patriotbook project.  Use the information you learn to answer the questions on the What is Trending on patriotbook?worksheet.

 5.  Go home and tell a family member about something you learned.
