Unit #5: Madison's and Monroe's Administration - The War of 1812
Learning Target: I can CREATE and SHARE a multi-media project highlighting some of the most important events and people during the War of 1812. 

Please complete the steps below to prepare for this assignment:

Follow the directions below.  You will be creating a tab for this assignment after you have added this lesson's learning target to your LiveBinder.
 
1.  Open the "Learning Targets" tab in your LiveBinder.  Copy the learning target above into your LiveBinder.  Be sure to include today's date. 

2.  Next, create a new tab in your LiveBinder titled "The War of 1812" for this assignment. 

3.  Now click on "content" > "Text" > Text Media" to set up your page.

 Part I: What was the War of 1812?

1.  For this project you will be creating a narrated PowerPoint presentation highlighting some of the important events during the "War of 1812."  If you choose to, you may work with a partner on this project. 
     Please be sure to upload the file to both of your LiveBinders however.  Follow the directions below to complete this project.  Be sure to save your work frequently to avoid losing any information. 
    
2.  Before beginning your project, watch the video presenting a short overview of the War of 1812.  You should also explore this animated website about the War of 1812.

3.  In your LiveBinder textbox, list at least 10 facts you learned about the War of 1812 while exploring these materials.

 Part II: Research and Creating a PowerPoint About the War of 1812

1.  Now that you have some background information about the War of 1812, you will be creating  your own presentation about the war to share with your classmates.  Open up a blank Microsoft PowerPoint file
     and save it to your computer as "Your_Last_Name_War_Of_1812.ppt.

2.  Next, conduct your own Internet research for the following events during the War of 1812:

     Battle of Detroit
     USS Constitution vs. HMS Guerriere
     Battle of Lake Erie
     The Battle of the Thames
     Raid on Fort Oswago
     Battle of Bladensburg
     British Burn Washington
     Battle of Fort McHenry - * Find out more about how the Stars Spangled Banner was written! *
     Battle of New Orleans
     Treaty of Ghent

 * This History Channel video: The War of 1812: America's First Invasion is also an excellent resource that you may use to learn more about the War of 1812. 
    
3.  For each of the events above, create a PowerPoint slide that contains a heading, an image(s) of the event, as well important information such as the: who, what, where, and when of the event.

     PowerPoint should also include a title slide.   Be sure to save your word frequently.


4.  As you work, be sure to save your PowerPoint presentation as "War of 1812" events in a .ppt format.  You should also make sure he events are in the correct chronological order.

 Part III: Sharing Your Knowledge With The Class

1.  Once your PowerPoint slides are complete, write a short script to use when recording your narration.  Your narration should explain each of the events you researched.  When you are ready, record your
     narration.  Be sure to save your PowerPoint file. 

2.  Upload your PowerPoint presentation to your LiveBinder media box.  (If your file is too big, please let Mr. Gigliotti know.)

3.  Next, find a partner to work with for this activity.  Email your PowerPoint files to one another.  Be sure that both of you also also CC Mr. Gigliotti on your emails.

4.  Take your time to look through your parenter's PowerPoint presentation.  In your LiveBider textbox, make a list of at least 10 facts your partner listed about the War of 1812.
